Frequently Asked Questions About Medical Insurance Coverage

We understand that insurance coverage may be a little confusing. Here are a few frequently asked questions about insurance for eye exams.

What is a copay?

This is a flat dollar amount paid for a medical service by the patient at the time of visit. Copayment amounts vary based on your policy.

What is coinsurance?

This refers to a cost-sharing requirement between the patient and his/her health insurance Company that establishes how much the patient will be responsible to pay versus how much the insurance company will be responsible to pay for medical expenses.

What is a deductible?

This is a fixed amount included in the policy that is not covered by the insurance company. The deductible must be “met /paid” by the patient, before the insurance benefits can apply.
